A woman from Belfast has become the UK's youngest granny after her 15-year-old daughter gave birth to a baby girl last week.

The mother-of-two, who is just 30, is said to be “over the moon” that her teen welcomed a little “princess”, and messages of support for the family have been flooding in.

One friend wrote: “Congratulations on the birth of ur little princess hope mum n baby r keeping well [sic]”, while another said: “Congrats mate shes gorgeous well done til both of you...[sic]”

The young mum, whose 17-year-old boyfriend is by her side, is expected home in a few days with her baby, and her own mother, who became a mum at 14, has said that she will help out with her grandchild.

The 15-year-old announced that she was expecting late last year, writing on her Facebook page: "I can't wait to be a mum. Just can't wait to hold him or her in my arms, relly don't think it's hit me yet [sic]."

Tracy Smith became one of Britain’s youngest grandmother in 2008 at the age of 36 when her 17-year-old daughter gave birth.

Congratulations to the couple.
