The debate over how much screen time we should allow our kids to have endlessly rages on.

It's no secret that children are spending more time with screen media -- and at younger ages -- than ever before. But there really is no magic number that's "just right." What's more important is the quality of kids' media, how it fits into your family's lifestyle, and how you engage your kids with it. Because they are going to access it in some form, regardless of the restrictions we impose.

And while we can do little to remove these from our daily lives, we can at least offer them some protection - and ensure their eyes are at least semi-shielded from the damaging affects of too much screen time.

To that end, Ambr Eyewear have launched their new range of children’s blue light filtering glasses, and aim to protect kids from the potentially damaging effects of blue light.

The glasses are available in both prescription and non-prescription and were created after more and more studies revealed how harmful this wavelength of light can be. Among other things, it suppresses melatonin levels causing sleep disruption - so if your children are using screens before bed and consequentially having difficulty falling asleep, this could be the reason - and too much exposure to it can cause dry eyes and blurred vision.

There’s even suggestions that blue light can negatively effect mood, which we're sure some parents can attest to!

The potential risks that come from over-exposure to this blue light is less for adult eyes that have a natural defence; as we age, the lens starts to yellow, which then acts to block out some of the blue light. The difference for children is that their eyes are still developing and they don’t yet have the protective pigments in their eyes to help filter out some of this harmful light.

So, this is one measure that can at least limit the amount of blue light your child absorbs so they get to keep up their hour of screen time and you get a distraction-free hour yourself!

The frames are available in two styles:

Junior: Available in tortoise, red, pink and blue and especially for kids ages 6-12

Jelly: Available in purple, black and blue and especially for kids 3-8
