There is sad news this morning, as it has been revealed that X-Men: Apocalypse star James McAvoy and his actress wife Anne-Marie Duff, who starred in Suffragette, are to divorce after nine years together.

James, 37, and Anne-Marie, 45, met on the set of the TV show Shameless over ten years ago, and have one son together - six-year-old Brendan.

In a statement released by the couple, they revealed that they are both feeling 'tremendous sadness' with their decision, saying: “It is with tremendous sadness that we have come to the decision to divorce."

"We enter this next phase with continued friendship, love and respect for one another and the shared focus of caring for our son.”

The couple, who married in 2006, are notoriously private where family life is concerned, although James previously admitted that Anne-Marie made him feel “like myself a bit more”
