Pregnancy is quite simply amazing and how your body can go through so much and still stay strong is incredible. However, like all good things there is quite often a side to it that is not so good, and pregnancy is no exception.

Here are 10 things about pregnancy and labour that are, quite frankly, gross:

Peeing when you sneeze
Bladder control seems to go out the window when you’re pregnant. If this doesn’t happen to you well then you are one very lucky lady.

Constipation
Obviously with a person inside you some things are not going to work quite as well as they did prior to pregnancy.

Extra hair growth
Growing baby fluff (hair) on your face is actually pretty common during pregnancy. It’s not just confined to your face though, so don’t be surprised to find it on your belly too. Shaving is a no-no, as is bleaching so just embrace your new hair.

Gas
Say goodbye to your dignity because when your body wants to burp, it will. Without warning. For a really long time.

Haemorrhoids
Not just for old people, haemorrhoids and pregnancy can go hand-in-hand. Fortunately, not everyone experiences these, not so good for those who do.

The mucus plug
The mucus plug is essential for ensuring your water’s don’t break, but it’s gross. Completely and utterly gross.

Vaginal discharge
Don’t be embarrassed, we’re all ladies here. Leaking comes part and parcel with expecting a baby. Just go with the flow...

Pooping during labour
Yes, it will happen but you won’t care you’ll be too busy pushing another person out of a very tiny hole.

The afterbirth
Even the mention of this is gross. Unfortunately, it is a part of labour so just embrace it - plus you won’t even see it, it’s your birth partner you should feel sorry for.

Blood clots
After you give birth, you will pass some blood clots. Not small little clots but big giant ones that will scare the daylights out of you.

Pregnancy is beautiful and incredible, but you have to admit, it does have some particularly gross aspects.
