Daughter of sheriff's lieutenant shoots younger sister in tragic accident

It has been reported that a ten-year-old girl in California has shot her younger sister after discovering and mishandling her father's handgun.

The case is unfortunately the latest in a long line of tragic incidents involving children and firearms in the States.

The 8-year-old girl, who underwent surgery and is said to be in a  stable condition,  was shot in the lower torso after her older sister discovered their father's gun and fired the deadly weapon.

The children's father who works as a sheriff's lieutenant had reportedly left his weapon on his bed while getting ready for work.

Speaking on local television, sheriff of Madera County Jay Varney asserted that the children's father would not be suspended from duty and the incident is being treated as an accident.
