With the country still reeling from the Buncrana tragedy, in March, grieving mother and partner Louise James has paid tribute to one of her late sons in a most inspiring way.

Louise, who lost five members of her family in the tragic accident, completed the Belfast Marathon in honour of eight-year-old Evan, who drowned in the tragedy.

Little Evan suffered from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and Louise was joined by over 100 runners in raising money for Muscular Dystrophy UK. They ran under the name ‘Team Evan’.

Among the runners on the day was Davitt Walsh, the hero who rescued Louise’s infant daughter, Rioghnac-Ann, from drowning on that devastating day.

After completing the run, Ms James paid tribute to her young son and her family.

RTE.ie reports Ms James as saying: “There are hundreds of young people who live with [muscular dystrophy] today…It means so much that people who knew Evan and my family, and many who didn’t, have come together like this.”

Louise lost Evan, his brother Mark, her partner Sean, her mother Ruth, and her sister Jodie when their car plunged into the waters of Lough Swilly, in March.

Well done to Louise, Davitt and all involved in the marathon; they are truly inspiring individuals.
