There are times when we’re really in a hurry in the supermarket, and we can sometimes huff and puff our way through the queue.

When this happens, we need to stop and think of those people who actually NEED to take their time putting their groceries through, though.

Thankfully, the folk at Tesco are considering these people – those with Alzheimer’s, dementia, social anxiety and autism – with their new ‘relaxed checkout’.

The relaxed checkout is the brainchild of management at a branch of the supermarket in Forres, Scotland, and caters to ‘anyone who just wants to take their time’.

A Facebook post explained: “This will be a checkout where customers can take the time they need to complete their purchases without feeling rushed or under any pressure.”

While initial feedback to the concept is said to be positive, we’ll find out more in a forthcoming Reporting Scotland documentary, on BBC.

What do you think of the introduction of a relaxed checkout? Would you like to see it introduced in your local supermarket?
