Since the news of the car crash that killed former rugby star Jerry Collins and his wife Alana Madill broke, we have been closely following the progress of the couple’s daughter Ayla, who was said to be in a critical condition after the accident.

Following reports of such an overwhelming outpouring of love and support from members of the public, it appears that Ayla’s condition is improving.

According to reports today, the three-month-old is expected to wake up from her induced coma within the next week or two, having shown signs of improvements.

The Herald reports this morning that doctors at Montpellier Hospital in France, where the tot is being treated, have taken Ayla off her medication, and the family are now waiting for her to wake up.

Ayla’s aunt, Nora Madill, confirmed the news to the publication: “We now have to wait. Over the next week or two, we could see her wake up slowly, or she could even wake up suddenly in the next day or two.”

“There’s no way of knowing what will happen, but the doctors are doing an awesome job. There are little improvements which come along, so we have to see that as being very positive,” she added.

Nora is joined by sister Brenna, and parents Ruth and Darren Madill as she attends Ayla’s bedside. She added that it is too early to tell whether Ayla has suffered brain damage.

Ayla and the family remain in our thoughts and prayers.
