There are a lot of myths surrounding pregnancy, some of which can actually be pretty frightening! And as you try to navigate your way through the nine months, you are sure to be told a number of things that are true and some not so much.

However, if anyone comes up to you talking about the following ten things, know that they are telling the truth – sorry!

1. You will struggle to stay awake during the first trimester

Your eyes will automatically close, and there is nothing you can do about it. You would totally fall asleep standing up if you had no other option!

2. You can poop during labour

As you push your baby out, you may push a little something else... Not all women experience this but there are a few unlucky ones!

3. Your sense of smell is better

It is believed that this happens to stop expectant mums eating things that are dangerous to the baby! Some women may notice that coffee and alcohol in particular have a repugnant smell!

4. Your singing voice can improve

But it can also sound worse! Another one to blame the hormones on.

5. You don’t need to eat for two

You don’t need to eat two dinners or two breakfasts or even those two biscuits (one for you, one for Baby!) An extra 300 – 400 calories is usually adequate, although this depends on your starting weight.

6. Your feet can grow one size bigger

Don’t be surprised if you start to struggle to get your feet into your size nines! During pregnancy, your feet can actually grow one size bigger, usually due to swelling.

7. You can experience facial hair

While you are not very likely to grow anything as dramatic as a beard (hopefully!), don’t be surprised if you notice a little facial hair. Blame it on your hormones!

8. You can pee your pants

And not just once or twice throughout the nine months, oh no! When you laugh or sneeze or cough or basically move you might notice a little... ahem! Pads, pads and more pads!
