A mother-of-three, who has been deaf since the age of two, has been given the opportunity to hear for the first time in 28 years with the help of a cochlear implant.

Jody Parcel, who has spent the vast majority of her life unable to hear the tones and sounds we take for granted, took to Facebook today in order to share footage of the special moment and offer a realistic perspective on her journey.

Admitting she was initially reluctant to upload the footage, Jody wrote: "I didn't want to put this on. My expectations were far too high."

"Us in the deaf world would have all seen the damn videos of the 2% of people who have immediate success on activation day, but none of the 98% who don't," she lamented.

Jody, who underwent the procedure in order to finally hear the voices of her three children, acknowledged that she has a long journey ahead of her, but insists she will remain positive.

"I'm not saying it was unsuccessful, I've just got a long way to go. My brain needs to stimulate these sounds I haven't heard for 28 years and make new pathways," she explained in an honest and heartfelt Facebook post.

The 30-year-old, who is the proud mum of a nine-year-old, three-year-old and seven-week-old, then offered her Facebook followers an insight into her current situation.

"I'm amazed at all the noises I hear even though it all sounds the same! Everything just seems impossible to me at the moment, like trying to focus the lenses of a camera on a moving target.. I just have to train my ear like an Olympian training for the Olympics now!," she quipped.

Commenting on her decision to have the cochlear device implanted, Jody said; "I realised I was getting worse when my three-year-old started talking. I knew I couldn't hear or understand him as much as I did with my oldest."

"It was heartbreaking and I knew I had to undergo this procedure for my family," she explains before revealing that the process took a total of four weeks

Jody, who was determined to properly hear the vows she plans to exchange with her fiancé, Jeremy Carne, booked her wedding venue the moment she learned she had been placed on a list to receive an implant.

Take a look at the moment Jody hears Jeremy's voice!

I didn't want to put this on. My expectations were far too high. Us in the deaf world would have all seen the damn videos of the 2% of people who have immediate success on activation day but none of the 98% who don't. I'm not saying it was unsuccessful, I've just got a long way to go.. My brain needs to stimulate these sounds I haven't heard for 28 years and make new pathways. I have to go back to the hospital over the next few months to be tuned and gradually introduced to this noisy (and I mean really noisy) world! I'm amazed at all the noises I hear even though it all sounds the same! Everything just seems impossible to me at the moment, like trying to focus the lenses of a camera on a moving target.. I just have to train my ear like an Olympian training for the Olympics now! Only time will tell... So for those who asked for it.. Here it is, the original was 10 mins long! Nobody wants to see that!
