The world of Irish sport was rocked last week as news that rugby hero Anthony Foley had passed away emerged.

The 42-year-old had an international career that spanned a decade, and despite his 62 Irish caps, Anthony will be truly remembered for his time with Munster, where he was a player, a captain, a coach and a legend.

Following a week of mourning which began last Sunday when news broke that the coach had died from respiratory failure, the Munster team joined his young sons - Tony, 11, and Dan, eight - on the pitch to perform a powerful rendition of Stand Up and Fight.

And now his 11-year-old son has requested that a Facebook page be set up in his father’s memory.

The youngster is asking family, friends and anyone else who wants to show their support to attend mass on each of the next eight Sundays to pray for people who have died, and to offer up a prayer for his own dad.

The number eight is a special number for the Foley family - it is the number of the jersey that Anthony made famous – and it will also bring everyone up to that special family time of year: Christmas.

Encouraging everyone who wants to get involved to light a candle for a loved one or “indeed Anthony”, Tony wants everyone to spread the word by getting people to tag eight friends in the post.

SHARE to spread the word.
