Footage has emerged this morning of fire fighters putting out a blaze that broke out on a school bus full of children.

The incident took place on the N56 in Mountaintop near Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, at around 8.30am today.

The 40 children on board the bus were quickly evacuated after smoke started billowing out of the vehicle.

One child told the Irish Mirror: “Smoke was flying out of the bus for a while. We first noticed it as we were coming up to Mountaintop and as we passed Kelly’s of Mountaintop, the bus driver pulled in and told us to get out.”

The children were escorted to safety before being transferred onto another bus.

Emergency services were called to the scene to tackle the blaze, and footage was captured by reporter Barry Whyte of Highland Radio.

There have been no reported injuries in the fire, while the cause of the outbreak of the blaze is still unknown.
