When you are pregnant, there are a few things you will need, either for comfort or necessity. While every expectant mother is different, this list will help get you started on what to stock up on.

Nursing bra
While you won’t need this straight away it is definitely worth investing in a good quality one. During pregnancy your boobs will go up a cup size or two. Rather than buying a few cheap bras in a bigger size, buy one really good nursing bra that will carry you right through to after the delivery.

Bra extender
For some mums, their band size increases more than their breast size. For cases like this, a bra extender will mean you will be able to use some of your older bras.

Bump band
A bump band is great if you don’t have the budget to buy lots of maternity wear. It will mean you will be able to wear your own trousers and cover the gap or an open button with the band.

Prenatal vitamins and folic acid
Your doctor or midwife will no doubt recommend that you take folic acid or other prenatal supplements. However, make sure you don’t take any vitamins before you consult your doctor.

Baby name book
While the internet is a great source when looking up baby names, there is something special about a baby name book. Pop one in your bag and when you have a spare moment have a look through it, marking off names that you like. In a few years time, you can look back through the book and have a chuckle at the names you nearly went for.

Pregnancy pillow
While they may look funny and seem like an expensive luxury, it will come in handy on those nights that you just can’t get comfortable. It is also great for extra support when feeding baby.

Antacids
Unless you are one of the lucky ones, you are bound to experience heartburn at least once during the nine months. Heartburn is not nice so carry around a few antacids in your bag for when you need it most. Be sure to check with your GP or pharmacist before taking these though as they can contain high levels of sodium, as well as aluminum. A glass of milk or shot of peppermint work wonders if you forget/can't take them.
