An emergency services operator has been criticised and is under investigation after telling a teenager who was watching her dad die to “stop whining”.

Rick Warrick and his fiancée Julia Pearce were on their way to a restaurant in Maryland when they got a flat tire. Leaving his two children in the car, Warrick got out to change the tire while Pearce held a flashlight overhead.

Tragically, as car salesman Warrick was tightening the lugs on the wheel, a car crashed into the couple. The accident killed Warrick and seriously injured his fiancée.

The victim’s terrified teenage daughter went on to contact the emergency services to call for an ambulance, but was met with some insensitive words from the operator who picked up.

In audio which was leaked after the accident, the teenager is heard saying: “Can you all hurry up please?”

The operator responds: “Ma’am listen, let’s stop worrying about hurrying up and get there. We’re already on our way.”

Clearly devastated, the teen says: “They’re just laying here.”

In a shocking response, the operator says: “Is there someone else there I can talk to because it’s so hard…OK, let’s stop whining. OK, let’s stop whining, it’s hard to understand you.”

It has since been reported that the operator involved has been taken off the phone lines, and is under investigation.

While another operator would praise the girl for her courage in keeping it together, this person's actions are extremely shocking.
