Earlier this morning, we touched on the power of an act of kindness, and it seems the fine folk at global courier FedEx already know a thing or two about this.

The company has come in for major praise this week, after it was revealed that they organised for one of their corporate jets to transfer a two-year-old to hospital for a life-saving liver transplant.

Jesse and Nick Faris went public with their story, after the company came to their aid in a time of great need with daughter Brooklyn.

Brooklyn, who was adopted by the family at a year old, has suffered with Alagille disorder – a genetic condition that prevents the liver from efficiently cleansing the blood of waste.

The tot was in need of a liver transplant, and the Faris family was delighted when they learned that Brooklyn had been moved to the top of the waiting list in a Chicago hospital.

There was a major setback, however – the family are based in Memphis, about an eight-hour drive away from Chicago, and all flights had been suspended due to a blizzard. Without the money to charter a special private plane, the family found themselves in a dilemma.

Help was at hand though, thankfully. A friend got in contact with a hospital, which in turn got in touch with FedEx - and the rest is history!

“[FedEx] called and said if we could get to the airport in 30 minutes, they could fly us free on one of their corporate jets. We rushed over and met two extremely nice pilots. They showed genuine concern for our comfort and for Brooklyn,” mum Jesse told Us Weekly.

The family flew in to Chicago that night, and by the next morning Brooklyn was being prepped for surgery. She is now recovering after a successful transplant and will remain in Chicago over the coming weeks for monitoring.

Essentially, this simple act by FedEx saved this tot’s life, and that is a pretty amazing result.
