The gardaí have today described the death of Chloe Fogarty as ‘a personal tragedy’.

Hearts have gone out to the Fogarty family after the untimely passing of the seven-month-old, from suspected heat stroke.

According to RTÉ, Chloe’s father, Paul, had placed her in the car yesterday morning with the intention of driving her to crèche. However, reports claim that Mr Fogarty got distracted by a phone call, and ended up in work.

It is believed that Mr Fogarty was unaware that baby Chloe was in the backseat of the car, as he parked up on the main street of Dundrum village, and headed to work.

Chloe was found unresponsive in the car just before 2pm. Emergency services were alerted, and paramedics treated her at the scene. She was airlifted to University Hospital Limerick for further treatment.

Tragically, the baby girl was pronounced dead shortly after 5pm yesterday evening.

Yesterday proved to be one of the hottest days on record so far in 2017, with temperatures reaching 25 degrees Celsius in some parts of the country.

An investigation into the incident has been launched, and a post-mortem is expected to be carried out later today.

In the meantime, hearts are going out to the child’s parents, Paul and Louise. They are in our thoughts right now; we can’t imagine what they are going through today.
