In light of the tragic events of this week and, indeed, the past year, we’ll take any and every positive message of love on offer – no matter how simple it may be.

Clearly, we’re not the only ones seeking comfort at a time of such hostility around the world, as a simple photo of two little girls napping together, holding hands, has gone viral.

The shot was captured by staff at the Presbyterian Day School in Clarksdale, Mississippi, and depicts two girls of different ethnicities holding hands as they sleep.

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God,” reads the caption, quoting the Bible.

The image may be simple, but its message is a powerful one that offers hope for love and peace between nations around the world.

The photo has come in for major praise on Facebook, touching hearts and moving people to comment and share on their own pages.

“Friends forever. Young kids that are taught to love each other – it’s how this picture speaks a thousand words. This proves that hate is not genetic, but love is,” wrote one Facebook user.

Meanwhile, another commented: “I taught Kindergarten and saw this daily. Young children do not see colour; they see friends.”
