We always love to hear of companies doing their part for charities and worthy causes, and we reckon Tesco Ireland’s latest campaign is a spark of genius.
The supermarket chain has just launched The Community Chill campaign, with a novel idea for helping those in need.
As part of the campaign, launched with the help of TV3 presenter Anna Daly, the chain is providing funding for food-related causes – so that they can buy fridges and freezers. The genius idea behind this, is that these organisations can then receive more surplus food donations for people in need.
The campaign is part of Tesco Ireland’s No Time for Waste strategy, with which they are aiming to overcome one of the greatest obstacles to local charitable organisations taking more surplus food – the lack of storage facilities.
They are now calling on charitable organisations to sign up (you can do so through this link), to receive a brand new fridge or freezer from a selection of refrigeration equipment that best suits their needs.
Tesco Ireland clearly takes its mission very seriously – it has vowed that no surplus food suitable for human consumption will go to waste in its stores by 2020.
Tesco Ireland’s Chief Executive, Andrew Yaxley, explained the motivation behind The Community Chill campaign.
“At Tesco, we believe that it’s simply not right that perfectly good surplus food should go to waste when there are people in our local communities who need it,” he said.
“That’s why we’ve set an ambitious target that no food that is suitable for human consumption will go to waste in our stores in Ireland, by 2020.”
If you’re part of an organisation which could benefit from this campaign, hop online or pop into your local Tesco store for information on how you can sign up.
