Recent reports show that companies are taking the needs of parents into account more and more when it comes to employee policy, and we’re relieved to see that this has extended to Qatar Airways.

The airline has previously made headlines over its treatment of female employees, who have until now had to seek permission to get married and have been fired for falling pregnant.

Thankfully, according to reports this week, these discriminative policies are soon to be a thing of the past.

The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITWF) announced this week that the airline has been ‘shamed’ into reforming its policies for women.

In amended contract provisions, employees will now no longer be required to give notice if they plan to marry in the first five years of employment. Female employees will also now be offered temporary ground jobs rather than being fired if they fall pregnant.

Paddy Crumlin of the ITWF said: “Qatar Airways has been shamed into action, and that’s a tremendous advance. No amount of hiding behind ‘best airline’ awards has kept the truth about how staff are treated from emerging.”

“We, along with everyone who works for the airline, hope that they will now address what many of those workers call the ‘climate of fear’ at Qatar Airways,” he added.
