Yesterday, J.K. Rowling took to Twitter to remind us of a very important Harry Potter anniversary – the day Harry’s youngest son Albus Severus Potter set off for his first day at Hogwarts.

The author’s tweet caused great excitement among devoted Harry Potter fans, with many posting their own tweets and tributes to mark Albus’ special day.

Not only did the tweet cause social media mayhem, a crowd of devoted fans also turned up at King's Cross station at 11am when Albus caught the train at the fictional 9 ¾ platform.

Reliving the final chapter of Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows, the crowd descended on the station to mark the day an adult Harry and his wife Ginny Weasley sent Albus off to Hogwarts.

Warwick Davis, who played Professor Flitwick in the movies was in attendance and told The Independent that he was delighted to celebrate the event with fans.

“It’s back to Hogwarts day today. 11 o’ clock, 19 years later was when the Hogwarts Express left. It’s great to celebrate with fans. As well as being in the franchise and the films, I’m a fan of them as well,” he explained.

Earlier that day, he tweeted: “Going #BackToHogwarts today via Kings Cross Station #Platform934 for some magical fun! #19YearsLater Wands & robes optional. #SwishAndFlick”.

King's Cross even joined in the celebrations adding the Hogwarts train to their list of departures onscreen. Leaving the platform blank, the departure read: “Hogwarts. Wizards and witches only”. We love it!

Fans became emotional as they reminisced over events from the popular book and movie franchise.

"Remembering all the good times and friends and magic these stories have infused my life with. So happy to be going #BackToHogwarts #19yearslater," one Twitter user wrote.

“I'm on my way to Kings Cross to join them!”, another excited fan added, alongside a photo of The Cursed Child and an ornate one-way London to Hogwarts ticket.

Such a lovely way to mark the occasion – we will NEVER forget the magic of Hogwarts!
