If you put us face-to-face with an axe-wielding thief today, we would run a mile – which is why we are so amazed by the actions of a six-year-old New Zealand girl this week.

CCTV footage from an electronics shop in Auckland captured little Sarah Patel running towards a man holding an axe up to a store employee, then grabbing his leg in a bid to stop him.

According to a local news report, Sarah’s father owns the store in question, which was looted by six men bearing axes and threatening staff on Monday.

When a young store employee was being cornered by one of the thieves, little Sarah thought it was her father being attacked – and she ran towards him to try and save him.

Her mother, Nashrin, told a media outlet afterwards that Sarah fell over in the commotion: “When she got up, when she stood up, she held one of the guy’s legs because she was thinking it’s her dad.”

In the footage, Sarah’s father can be seen running out ahead of her, before she then makes a run at the thief.

In the latest update to the story, it was confirmed that five of the six thieves have been apprehended and charged with robbery.

What an incredible little girl. Thank heavens no one was hurt in the fracas.
