A Garda investigation has been launched following a collision between an ambulance and a car on the Drogheda to Slane road.

The ambulance which was transporting a child to our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Co. Louth collided with the other vehicle yesterday afternoon.

Confirming the minor collision which happened close to Townley Hall Woods, a statement from the National Ambulance Service was released to waiting media.

Elaborating on the details surrounding the incident, the statement read: "An ambulance in the North-East was involved in an incident this afternoon at approximately 4.30pm; a minor collision between the ambulance and one other car."

It has been established that the patient, crew and driver of the car were treated at the scene by EMTs before being transported to hospital.

It is understood that none of the parties involved in the collision sustained serious injuries.
