Only yesterday we reported on the news that a mother had tried to sell her child through an online advertisement site, and now a similarly shocking story has made headlines around the world today.
Police in the UK have arrested three people after a newborn child was allegedly sold to a couple in Wales.
According to reports, a Romanian woman had given birth to the baby boy in Spain and went on to claim that he had died during an emergency operation in a British hospital.
However, Spanish detectives discovered the truth behind the woman’s story, and authorities proceeded to arrest her at Bristol Airport. A Spanish couple, aged 25 and 26, were also arrested in Cardiff, with the child in their care.
It is believed that the six-week-old baby had been sold to the couple for up to £11,000. The child is now in the care of social services at Cardiff Council, while a team at the Spanish hospital in which he was born are trying to determine who the father is.
All three parties have since been released on bail pending an investigation.
