Recent reports have shown that accidents can happen in the blink of an eye, but thankfully one family were miraculously spared a very tragic incident this week.

An 11-month-old Florida baby was rescued ‘in the nick of time’ after being left in a hot car that was robbed from his parents.

Dad Marc Philistin had just put baby Darwin into the backseat of his car when he realised he had forgotten to pack a bottle of water. After dashing back into the house, Marc emerged to find that his car had been stolen.

Speaking to local media, Marc said: “I guess somebody was watching me the whole time.”

The car, containing the tot, was missing for an hour-and-a-half when an Orange County police officer pulled into an apartment complex and spotted the vehicle. To his surprise, while the car had been abandoned, the child was still inside – in the roasting California heat.

Deputies immediately broke the car window using a bolt cutter, and rescued baby Darwin before he was seriously injured. Emergency services who responded to the scene doused the child with water and then rushed him to hospital.

A spokesperson for the Orange County Sherriff’s Office said: “We hit the jackpot, just in time.”

Meanwhile, Corporal Tim Nazarro - who found the child - described the scene: “We were trying to cool the kid down. We were getting bottles from our own cars, deputies running up with coolers, residents from the apartment complex coming down with buckets of water.”

Baby Darwin was reunited with his parents, while police are currently trying to track down the thief.
