Yesterday, Hollywood star Ashton Kutcher took to his social media to question why there aren’t baby changing tables in more men’s bathrooms, and now, a similar issue has been raised.

Worldwide debate has been sparked online over a sign posted at a shopping centre toilet in Oklahoma, reading: “Please. Boys over 6 years of age use Men’s restroom. Thank you.”

The post was photographed and shared to the Oklahoma City Moms Blog, with admin posing the question: “If you were shopping at a local mall and saw this picture, what would your reaction be?”

The post has since attracted plenty of commentary from parents all over the world, who have been weighing up whether six is too young to leave a child unsupervised in a public bathroom.

One mother observed: “I have no problem with a boy up to the age of 11 or so in the ladies’ restroom, as long as he’s accompanied by a female relative. As a mom, you can’t be too cautious.”

Another added: “I just started letting my son go to the men’s room alone, and he is 12, but I stand outside. He knows all he has to do is yell, and I am busting in like The Incredible Hulk!...There’s a stall [in the ladies’ room]. No one can see you in there fouling up the bathroom, and not cleaning up after yourself!”

Meanwhile, another mum commented that she would have no problem with the sign – once she could go into the bathroom with her young son.
