Taking your baby along to a sporting event should not be a cause for concern, but unfortunately, that was exactly the case for one mum in the States this week.

A security review is to be carried out after a mother and her baby were almost struck with a beer can while attending a Toronto Blue Jays baseball game.

According to reports, a controversial call in the seventh inning of the game led some irate spectators to throw litter including beer cans onto the playing field.

The incident led to a potentially serious near-miss, where an infant was almost hit by a can.

Speaking out after the controversial incident, local police said: “Fortunately the child was not struck by the can, it was more of a spray from the liquid of the can. However, the potential was definitely there and we’re very thankful that nobody was seriously injured.”

A 33-year-old man named Albert Grummit has since been arrested for throwing the can. Mr Grummit was among 39 fans ejected from the stadium after the incident.

A representative from the stadium has said that security will be launching a review into the incident and the sale of beer at future games.
