What you need
  • A plastic bucket / basin
  • Apples
  • Treats
  • Timer
  • Towels

How to play
  1. Fill the basin with water (leave enough space to add the apples).
  2. Add in the apples so that they are about half way under the water.
  3. The size and texture of the apples will effect how the game is played, so if you use large hard apples, it will make it more difficult to get the apples out. If there are younger kids playing, you should use smaller and softer apples, so that the child has a chance to grab the apple.
  4. The number of apples will also effect success in the game, if you only include a few, it makes it quite hard to grab them.  Again we suggest you have quite a few so everyone gets a chance.
  5. When you are all set up, give each child 25 seconds on the timer to have a go, this keeps the game moving.
  6. You can decide the rules depending on the age of the kids playing. For the younger kids, it’s good to have it simply that everyone gets a treat when they get an apple.
  7. Towels will be required.
If you’re worried about the mess that can ensue from bobbing for apples, an alternative is to simply tie an apple from a string (attached to a tree branch outside, or a suspended brush handle inside), and have the kids take a bite from it.
