Social media can be incredibly powerful in bringing people together, sometimes in ways that would otherwise not be possible. Now, one teenager is hoping that the online community will help him track down a very important person: his biological father.

Jette Collins, an 18-year-old New Yorker, has turned to Facebook for help in identifying and locating his father. While the odds may be stacked against Jette – all he has is his dad’s first name – he is hoping for the best.

The teen posted a photo of himself holding up a placard with the details, which read: “I am looking for a man by the name of Jason that lived in Syracuse, NY in 1996. He went to the first K-Rockathon in 1996 and met a girl named Dana Collins. I am the product of that night. I am not asking for anything. Just would like to meet my biological father.”

I don't know if this actually works but I'm going to try it, just hoping for the best and a little luck. Help a kid out

Sharing the shot, which has now gone viral as people rally to help in the search, Jette added: “I don’t know if this actually works but I’m going to try it, just hoping for the best and a little luck. Help a kid out.”

We sincerely hope that Jette will manage to track down Jason.
