According to emerging reports, Brussels airport has been brought to a standstill after two explosions went off in the departures area of the international airport reportedly killing 11 people.

It has been established that the airport, which is located seven miles from the city, is currently being evacuated and all flights have been cancelled, with authorities telling the public not to come to the airport.

While the causes of the explosions are as yet unknown, links are being made between this morning's attack and the capture of Salah Abdeslam - the main suspect in the jihadist attacks in Paris on 13th of November 2015.

Sky News Middle East correspondent Alex Rossi, who was making his way to Tel Aviv from the Belgian airport, spoke of his experience, saying: "The thinking here by everybody is that it is some kind of terrorist attack although that hasn't been verified by anyone here at the airport."

"Don't know how the explosion took place, the method if you like," he continued. "But it certainly seems Brussels airport has been targeted in a terrorist attack. There are fears that there might be other attackers."

Emergency services are currently at the scene of this morning's attack.

UPDATE: There have been reports of further explosions at a Metro station near the EU headquarters in central Brussels.
