UPDATED 2.40pm: The Gardai have confirmed that Connolly Station is now open following a security alert, earlier this morning. The alert has been lifted and roads have been reopened. Rail services are shortly expected to resume.

Services are expected to experience delays, but Iarnod Eireann said in a tweet that they will ease.

A security alert has closed down one of the main train stations, Dublin's Connolly Station this morning.

In a tweet, Iarnrod Eireann said: "Security alert: Connolly Station is currently closed, no services operating to or through Connolly at present. DARTs suspended Clontarf Rd to Pearse, Commuter/Intercity delayed pending further update."

Gardai have alerted the Army Bomb Disposal Team and the station has been evacuated.

They have also tweeted that they have closed Amiens Street to Commons Street and are at the scene of an incident. They have asked the public to use alternative routes and local diversions are now in place.

According to the Independenttrains are still running from Tara Street Station, but Luas trams will not be stopping at Connolly Station due to the on-going incident.

It has been reported that evacuation protocols were initiated and people at the back of Connolly Station in businesses and offices were forced to leave their workplaces.

‘We don’t know what is happening. The fire alarms went off and we were ushered up here beyond the garda tape,” said one man who was standing with his colleagues on Oriel Street.
