A man has died and a child left with serious injuries following a road traffic collision at Fermoy, Co. Cork this morning.
The incident involving two cars - one a 4X4 - occurred at approximately 8am on the N72 Fermoy to Ballyhooely Road.
A male driver in his early 20s was pronounced dead at the scene while a child - believed to be a passenger in the other vehicle - suffered serious injuries.

The driver of the 4X4 and second child were said to be uninjured, however, all three were taken to Cork University Hospital.

The scene is preserved and Garda Forensic Collision Investigators will conduct their investigations this morning. The stretch of road is currently closed and local diversions are in place.
