It was the tragic accident that left us all reeling in sympathy for Melissa and Matt Graves, and now the parents of two-year-old Lane – who died in an alligator attack in Disney World last month – have spoken out.

The couple issued a new statement this evening, insisting that they do not plan on taking legal action against the Orlando-based theme park.

They also revealed that they have set up a special foundation in Lane’s name, to ‘keep his spirit alive’.

Describing himself and his wife as ‘broken’, brave father Matt told People magazine: “We will solely be focused on the future health of our family and will not be pursuing a lawsuit against Disney.”

“We will forever struggle to comprehend why this happened to our sweet baby, Lane. As each day passes, the pain gets worse, but we truly appreciate the outpouring of sympathy and warm sentiments we have received from around the world,” he added.

Matt went on to confirm that the family have set up the Lane Thomas Foundation, to “share with others the unimaginable love Lane etched in our hearts”.

Little Lane was on holidays with his family when, while playing in a foot of water, he was dragged into a lake by an alligator. Lane’s body was later discovered during a search-and-rescue operation.

The Graves family remain in our thoughts and prayers.
