One very courageous little boy from Florida has spent two years fending off critcism after he made the choice to grow his hair in order to donate his locks to a worthy children's charity.

Christian McPhilamy was six-years-old when he spotted an ad for St. Jude Children's Hospital and decided he wanted to find a way to help.

Choosing to grow his blonde hair out so he could eventually donate it to charity, Christian spent two years being jeered by classmates and adults alike.

Commenting on the past two years, Christian's mum revealed: "From his peers calling him a girl to even coaches and family friends telling him he should cut it or offering him money to."

Sticking to his plan, the determined little boy eventually reached his goal and was able to donate 10 inches of hair in four thick ponytails to the 'Children with Hair Loss' foundation.

Commenting on her son's incredibly admirable endeavour, Deanna Thomas said: "He has endured an awful lot of criticism, and yes even bullying, throughout this time."

Praising her son for his courage in the face of adversity, Christian's mam took to Facebook, writing: "Even still, he has never once strayed from his goal and always took the time to educate others on why he made the choice to grow his hair."

Christian's efforts have reinforced Deanna's feelings for her amazing son, with the delighted mother writing: "I am one proud mommy as always."

Like little Roisin Smith from Co. Galway, Christian's efforts will go a long way towards making another child very happy.

Well done, Christian!
