When you’re a child on a trip to the woods or a national park, the wonders of nature can be truly astonishing. So much so, in fact, that it’s not unusual to want to take a souvenir from your adventures home with you.

This is exactly what one young visitor to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks did recently – only they grew to instantly regret it.

As explained in a Facebook post on the park’s official page, it’s actually against the rules to take a pine cone from the beauty spot. So, when a young visitor learned this having already pocketed said pine cone, he or she felt horribly guilt.

So, what do you think the child did? They only went and returned the pine cone, taped to a heart-warming note of apology!

The note, which was shared by the page’s admin, read: “To Whom It May Concern: I took a pine cone out of the forest and I wanted to return it. I hope it will be replaced near the General Grant tree, because that is where I took it. I am sorry for my decision. Thank you.”

As you can imagine, the Park’s team were incredibly touched by the child’s actions and thanked them for taking their preservation message on board.

Well done to that budding young environmentalist!
