According to a report released by the United Nations Children Fund, almost one million children were severely affected by the recent natural disaster in Nepal.

It has been established that the majority of those killed and injured during the devastating earthquake on Saturday were children, with many more individuals falling victim to the aftershocks which affected the region the following day.

The current death toll stands at 3,700 and is expected to rise as aid workers make their way into remote villages in search of casualties.

The earthquake which measured 7.8 on the richter scale devastated towns and villages in areas surrounding Kathmandu and Mount Everest and claimed the lives of thousands of young people.

The United Nations Children Fund has warned of waterborne and infectious diseases resulting from the devastation which occurred during the worst earthquake the country has seen in 80 years.

Humanitarian groups including Oxfam, CARE, Save the Children and the Red Cross are currently providing aid, water, emergency food supplies and shelter to those rocked by the tragic events of the weekend.

Our thoughts are with all those affected by the devastating incident.
