When you send your little one off to day care, you generally expect that you’ve left them in the safest possible environment – however, as recent reports have illustrated, this is not always true.

It certainly wasn’t the case for the parents of young children attending a kindergarten in Ningde City, in China’s Fujian province, this week.

There were chaotic scenes as a fire broke out in the building which housed the kindergarten, with over 100 people – including children – taken to hospital for treatment.

While all 303 children registered at the centre were rescued, some had to be thrown from the building’s windows onto blankets in order to be saved from the fire and billowing black smoke.

Dramatic images shared on national news also showed adults running from the building with children in their arms.

An estimated 92 children and 12 adults were taken to a nearby hospital to be treated, but all are said to be in stable condition after the incident.

The fire is said to have originated in a paper flower shop on the floor below the kindergarten. Thankfully, firefighters were able to put out the blaze in the space of half an hour.

Thank heavens there were no fatalities. We wish everyone involved a speedy recovery.
