When we become parents a switch doesn’t flick and suddenly we’re happy staying at home all day changing nappies and pureeing veg. Nope, we want our lives to go on as… well not as normal exactly, but pretty much as close as possible to how things were before baby.
Eating out falls into this category – it’s one of our fave things to do, and by God we refuse to give it up! For one thing we don’t have to cook or clean, and for another there’s nothing like the excitement of seeing your food arrive, steaming and delicious.
That’s why we’re BIG fans of Eden Bar and Grill on South William Street in Dublin 2, a proudly child-friendly restaurant that doesn’t look at us like we’ve stomped on a kitten when we arrive with buggies and kids hanging off each limb.
Here are five great reasons to go there for food with your brood:
1. The brunch menu
Eden’s weekend brunch from 12 noon to 4pm is a brilliant option for mums, as it gives us loads of time to get the kids suited, booted and out the door. And both grown-ups and kids are kept happy out, with a great Kid’s Menu packed with popular dishes like roast chicken and mash and scrambled eggs on toast, while parents can choose from superb options including Eggs Benedict, Roasted Fig Salad or Salmon & Caper Fishcakes. Nom.
2. Loads of space for buggies
The thought of squeezing into a busy city centre restaurant with the kids in tow generally gives us the shivers, not least because there’s usually nowhere to park the pram. Eden has mums covered, with plenty of space on-site to store buggies, as well as baby chairs available upon request.
3. The gorgeous setting
No reason a family meal out can’t be classy right? We love getting dressed up now and then, especially at the weekend, and with its stunning 21st century Belle Époque décor, Eden is the perfect backdrop for a special family occasion. We’re talking intricate antique-style light fittings, plush furniture and ornate baroque frames and mirrors. Lovely, dah-ling.
4. It’s geared for your relaxation
Eden wants you to sit back and relax (don’t mind if we do). Nothing is too much trouble for the super-friendly staff – whether it’s grabbing colouring books and crayons to occupy the kids while they wait to be fed, or answering questions about allergies or dietary requirements, they’re happy to help.
5. The food is delicious
As all mums know, eating out happens much less frequently as soon as we start having babies. So when we do go out for food, we want to be sure it’s going to rock our worlds. Eden’s nosh is absolutely gorge, from yummy lunches to dreamy desserts to sumptuous evening meals – oh and cocktails, did we mention cocktails?
