Yesterday, a teenager sustained a severe neck injury while out for a walk in the snow.
The Cork teen was with his father in Mayfield on the northside of Cork city when the accident happened around 3pm, the Irish Independent reports.
The pair were heading home so they could be indoors before the red weather warning began at 4pm.
The area where the accident happened, between parkland and sports grounds, is a popular spot for walkers.
Cork City Hall at 8am. Roads conditions treacherous! If you must travel, slow down and leave plenty of distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. Snow has started to fall heavily again in Cork City. #beastfromtheast #StormEmma pic.twitter.com/5CeciDr0P7

The teen slipped and fell off of a low wall he was standing on to get a better view of the snow-laden neighbourhood, according to initial reports.
He slipped on the snow-covered surface of the wall and, unable to regain his footing, fell awkwardly onto his head and neck.
His father rushed to helped the teen. He raised the alarm and paramedics were there within minutes. Cork Fire Brigade and gardaí units assisted as well.

The teen was taken to Cork University Hospital (CUH) on a special spinal board.
He is now in hospital, and is reportedly in a serious condition. There were worries that he could have fractured a neck vertebrae.
The Cork teenager is undergoing assessment to see if he suffered spinal damage. Concerns arose that he may be left partially paralysed from the fall.
