With temperatures set to soar this weekend, a trip to the beach is no doubt on the cards for many families out there.

Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has issued an important warning to all those thinking of heading down to Dublin’s popular Sandycove Beach, however.

According to a statement shared to the council’s official website, the ‘red flag’ has been raised due to the presence of lion’s mane jellyfish in the water.

Visitors to the beach have been urged to stay out of the water, and signs have been erected bearing safety messages.

“Bathers are advised not to enter the water due to the presence of these jellyfish whose sting can be dangerous and cause serious symptoms including nausea, vomiting and respiratory distress,” the statement read.

The council assured all those worried that the situation is ‘being monitored’.

In the case of a jellyfish sting, always seek medical help from the lifeguard station.

Meteorologists have promised a weekend of sunshine across most of the country, with temperatures reportedly set to hit 25 degrees Celsius.

Stay safe out there, mums.
