It’s likely that many of you have been run ragged over the past number of weeks, trying to make sure that your every child’s wish comes true on Christmas Day – but a warning has been issued today, reminding parents to be vigilant for counterfeit toys.

According to a report on MailOnline.com, hundreds of toys have been seized in the UK for being counterfeit and containing potentially harmful chemicals that could cause major health problems for children.

Toys including fake Disney figurines, loom band sets and fancy-dress makeup have been found to contain unacceptable levels of phthalates, which, if chewed and eaten by a child, can disrupt their hormones.

Today’s report goes as far as saying that if such high and toxic levels of phthalates are consumed by a child, it could increase their risk of developing cancer, asthma or even fertility problems in the years ahead.

Now, parents are being warned once again to be vigilant when purchasing any toys for their little ones. Top safety watchdogs have recommended that you always purchase from a reputable vendor, and look for the safety-approved ‘CE’ mark on the toy’s packaging.
