They say that adrenaline kicks in and pushes you to survive when an emergency threatens your life and those of your family, and this appears to have been the case for Australian couple Megan Krawczyk and her fiancé, Michael, recently.

According to local news outlet ABC Hobart, the couple almost lost their lives while wading through waist-high floodwater in Tasmania, to save themselves and their three-month-old baby.

The couple recalled being awoken in the early hours of Wednesday morning to the sight of flood water creeping up their driveway. Realising that they would soon be trapped in their home, they decided to make a dash to their car with as much baby equipment as possible, and try to drive to safety.

Once the couple reached the town, however, they knew they were in big trouble; water began to flood their vehicle, and their car was swept up against a fence shortly after. Luckily, due to the positioning of their car against some wire, the family were not swept away by the tide.

Having previously contacted the police before leaving the house, Megan and Michael contemplated their next move. After spotting an abandoned car about 60 metres away, outside of the flood zone, they decided to make a dash for it.

Megan recalled: “Michael went around the side, got my son out through the window, and then got to an abandoned car that we’d passed. My three-month-old, he’s such a survivor, he’s such a trooper, and my partner managed to get through those waters, three times.”

Things looked dangerous for Megan at one point, as she began to struggle through the waist-high water’s tide, but thankfully, the police arrived just in time to save her and bring the family to safety.

“If it wasn’t for that abandoned car, and my partner being able to get me out of the water, because it was so strong, we wouldn’t be alive today,” said Megan.

Michael, meanwhile, described their escape as ‘an absolute miracle’.

Thank heavens this family is now safe.

SHARE to spread the word of their bravery.
