As any husband or wife out there will tell you that marriage can be challenging, which is why we will take any useful advice on board.

And it seems there is no couple more qualified to dish out that advice than Nicholas and Rafaela Ordaz.

The California-based couple recently celebrated a whopping 82 years of marriage, and their reporter granddaughter was on hand to record some nuggets of wisdom they have picked up over the years.

Apparently, Nicholas and Rafaela have three golden rules for a successful and long-lasting marriage. They are:

  1. Respect one another
  2. Show lots of affection
  3. Don’t fret over the little things

Married in 1934, the couple are four years away from clinching the Guinness World Record title for the longest marriage.

The couple’s granddaughter is a reporter for KCRA news, and she reported on their wonderful milestone from her grandfather’s 102nd birthday celebrations. Nicholas’ party was attended by five generations of family.

In a time when our newsfeeds are constantly filled with reports of celebrity splits, it’s lovely to come across a story like this.

Here’s hoping for many more years of happy marriage to come!
