Last week, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake devastated central Italy and left more than 290 people dead and hundreds more missing.

And as the country mourned those they had lost, one couple was determined to share their happiness with the Italian people, “even amid the sadness.”

Ramon and Martina Adazzi had been planning their perfect day for over a year, and were devastated when they were told that part of the church they had planned to get married in had been destroyed by the quake.

Talking to CNN, the couple explained how they were told the church was not stable: the altar was covered in debris, there were cracks up the walls and hundred-year-old frescoes had been torn in half.

"When Don Giovanni said the church was not safe, I told my wife: I want to celebrate my wedding there because they need a moment to think of other things now," Ramon told the publication.

"I love the city. I love the people. Why would I take my wedding to another city?"

With the church being so unstable, the couple decided to take the ceremony outside to the village, despite aftershocks continuing.

Attended by family and friends, some from as far away as Brazil, the couple brought a moment of happiness to a town that was still reeling from the loss of so many.
