Welcoming a baby into the world is a joyous occasion for any family, but for the Lawrie family, the birth of their little girl has proven even more special.

For, little Myla Lawrie, who was born in the UK four months ago, is the first girl in the Lawrie family for 200 years!

Indeed, the last time the Lawrie family announced the arrival of a little girl was in 1809, when the motorcar was yet to be invented.

So when Hannah and Mark Lawrie welcomed their little daughter into the world, she ended a record that the family didn’t think was possible.

Already parents to three sons – nine-year-old Ben, seven-year-old Zac, and three-year-old Mason – mum Hannah decided to look to a particular theory on conception to increase the couple’s chances of having a girl.

Using the Shettles Method, which claims that the timing of conception can help determine the baby’s sex, Hannah ensured that she and husband Mark only tried for a baby at the beginning of her cycle, when the lifespan of the X chromosome is said to survive for longer.

Whether it was down to her careful planning, or chance intervened, the astonished couple were informed at their 20-week scan that they were expecting a girl.

Recalling the special moment, Hannah said: “Mark was so emotional he was in tears, crying that it was a gift from his Dad – who, sadly, passed away just before I fell pregnant. He’d told us he’d love a granddaughter.”

Needless to say, Myla’s room is a shrine to all things pink, with delighted mum Hannah admitting: “I know it’s over-the-top, but I can’t resist!”

Congratulations to the entire family on the long-awaited arrival of their little girl!
