The importance of ensuring the safety of your family in the home cannot be stressed enough, as this latest tragic report has highlighted.
According to reports this morning, a man and his seven children were found dead in their home in the US yesterday, from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.
The man’s mother and stepfather confirmed that the tragic incident involved a generator that the family were using after their electricity supply was cut off.
A concerned co-worker of the father first raised the alarm, contacting the authorities to express concern after he failed to show up to work.
Police went on to discover the bodies of the man and his seven children, five girls and two boys – the youngest aged just six - at their Maryland home.
The authorities have said that the cause of death is still under investigation, while relatives outside the home told local media that it was carbon monoxide poisoning.
The relatives went on to identify the father-of-seven as 36-year-old Rodney Todd, and explained how he had purchased the generator in a bid to keep the family warm, after the electricity had been cut off.
Todd’s stepfather Lloyd Edwards told awaiting reporters: “To keep his seven children warm, he bought a generator. It went out and the carbon monoxide consumed them.”
What devastating news. Our thoughts are with the family and all affected by this shocking tragedy.
