Families were left in shock this week when it emerged that a house in the UK went up in flames due to a fault with a tumble-dryer, and now a further warning has been issued after an accident in Tennessee, US.

A father has told local media that he was left fearing for his children’s lives after a hoverboard sparked a fire in his $1 million Nashville home.

Brian Fox told a number of local media sources that two of his children were left trapped up on the second floor of his home after the fire broke out below them. Aged 14 and 16, the kids were forced to break a bedroom window in order to get out.

He recalled: “I thought, ‘I’m going to lose two of my four children today.’”

While both teens were left with ‘minor injuries’, the Foxs’ home has been left completely destroyed.

According to a statement issued by emergency services, the fire was sparked by Brian’s son’s hoverboard – a present the teen received for Christmas. The hoverboard had been left on charge before the fire broke out, and it’s believed it originated with the lithium batteries inside.

This is not the first time a hoverboard has caused a fire, and various companies were forced to recall the products after reports of serious injuries and accidents. For those who have decided to keep and use their hoverboards, authorities have urged them to stay nearby when the gadget is charging.
