There has been an alarming number of stories documenting unacceptable behaviour by day care centre bosses and staff in recent times, and yet another report has caused major concern this week.

A day care operation in South Carolina is under investigation by local police and social services, after a photo of a 15-year-old sticking her toes into the mouth of a seven-month-old baby went viral.

The image was initially posted to Snapchat, but it quickly began to circulate around various other social media platforms. Eventually, it came to the attention of parents who claim to drop their children off to be cared for at the residence in which the photo was taken.

While police initially believed the home to be the address of a day care centre, they later discovered that the house is not registered as such. Now, social services have stepped in to see if other children are being cared for alongside the baby boy in the photo.

A friend of the baby’s mother told local media: “Somebody should be apologising, and there should be something done about it. It doesn’t need to be pushed under the rug; she needs to punished.”

According to police, the teenager is not facing charges but they are continuing with their investigation.
