We all want to spoil our little ones, especially when it comes to their birthdays, but one family have this week been accused of taking things a little too far.

Perth-based parents Eric Lembo and Trang Nguyen have hit the headlines after spending a whopping $50,000 on their daughter’s third birthday party.

People all over the world took to their social media channels to express their shock over little Lauren’s Disney-themed party, which was held in a chandelier-lined marquee in the grounds of the exclusive Caversham House.

With an Australian Idol contestant providing the entertainment, and a menu including truffle and cognac, the party has attracted widespread attention – while Eric and Trang have been blasted over their excess.

However, in response to those who have deemed the event “vulgar” and “wasteful”, proud dad Eric has insisted that he was merely making it a day to remember for this family.

In response to the widespread backlash, Eric told the Perth Now Sunday Times: “One of the comments was that we should send our daughter to a refugee camp so that she can learn the value of money. That’s very funny, because Trang and her whole family came to Australia from refugee camp.”

He went on to insist that the day “wasn’t all about the money”, adding: “The Italian and Vietnamese cultures have a large first birthday so we decided to do it for her second and third birthday as well.”
