It is known to develop quite quickly and with devastating results, and today one family in the UK has taken to social media to appeal to others over the dangers of meningitis.

Tim Dawson took to Facebook this week to share his four-year-old daughter Millie’s story, after the tot was left fighting for her life as she battled the illness.

One of the “disturbing” photos showed little Millie hooked up to various wires and machines, while the message by dad Tim described how she was struck down within the space of just 24 hours.

“24 hours ago Millie was diagnosed with Bacterial Meningitis or Meningococcal Septicaemia. At 8:50am I took her to school, bright as usual and full of life. At 10:30am [the] school called to say she was feeling unwell. At 12pm she was seen by a doctor who prescribed Calpol and rest,” began Tim.

He added: “At 1pm she started vomiting but was still drinking water. At 4:30pm she was sleepy and still vomiting. By 5:30pm she was almost unresponsive. At this point there was NO rash. At 6:15pm she was taken to A&E where on immediate inspection, spots were found. They developed within a matter of minutes.”

Thankfully, Tim proceeded to reveal that Millie’s symptoms were caught in time, and she has now been released from hospital to recover at home.

However, while he and wife Louise look after their little girl, Tim has pleaded with parents far and wide to look at the photos of Millie’s symptoms and be vigilant with their own little ones.

“Please look at the pictures of the spots so you may recognise them if you see them,” he added, in the post.
