It is with extremely heavy hearts we report this morning on the passing of little Sebastian McLoughlin from Ballina, Co Tipperary.

Sebastian came to the public's attention last month when his parents, upon learning their son had only weeks to live, appealed to listeners of the Ray D'Arcy Show to lend their support in helping to create a final Christmas Day for the brave little boy.

Explaining that their four-year-old son relished the festive season, Sebastian's parents did their utmost, with the help of the Irish public, to create a magical Christmas Day their son could enjoy in his final days.

Taking to the airwaves in the wake of the little boy's untimely passing yesterday, a clearly emotional Ray D'Arcy said: "We would like to pass on our sincere condolences to his Mum, Ann, Dad Connor and big brother Ethan, his Uncle Dan and family friend Kieran along with extended family members."

Acknowledging the Irish public for the support they showed the McLoughlin family as they helped Sebastian celebrate his 'favourite time of year', Ray went to say: "We were blown away with the outpouring of generosity. There was a real sense community. It felt like the whole country was giving Sebastian a big hug."

Sebastian had a brain tumour removed at Temple Street Children's Hospital before undergoing chemotherapy earlier this year, but the family were dealt a devastating blow when MRI results showed that the little boy had tragically fallen ill again.

Sebastian's parents expressed sincere gratitude to the Irish public for helping their son celebrate his final Christmas Day on Saturday May 30th this year.

Our thoughts are with Sebastian's parents, sibling, family and friends at this hugely difficult time.
